Job Title: IT Support Engineer
Compensation: Competitive
Reports to: Service Delivery Manager
Department: Support

Job Description:

The Support Engineer is responsible for both remote and onsite support needs for our clients as well as involvement within projects as appropriate. This relates to all technology, including: workstations, servers, printers, networks, and client specific hardware and software.

Basic functions:

  • Provide 2nd line remote and onsite support.
  • Handling of onsite work (new deployments and installations).
  • Troubleshooting of known and unknown issues.
  • Structured cabling.
  • Ability to work as part of a busy team and on own initiative.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • IT support relating to technical issues involving Microsoft's core business applications, as well as virtual environments built on Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware.
  • Support services for multiple technologies: Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Cisco.
  • Implement and support disaster recovery solutions.
  • Technical services and support at the network level: WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security.
  • Remote access solution implementation and support: VPN, Terminal Services, and Citrix.
  • Creating standard documentation on problem resolution, fixes and updating the technical knowledge base
  • Communication with customers as required: keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes, or agreed outages.
  • Managing incidents to resolution and within SLA requirements.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Improve customer service, perception, and satisfaction.
  • Maintain specific knowledge of the customer and how IT relates to their business strategy and goals.
  • Document internal processes and procedures related to duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work to schedules.
  • Enhance own skills and knowledge by self-development.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required:

  • Interpersonal skills: such as telephony skills, communication skills, active listening and customer-care.
  • Diagnosis skills of technical issues.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Technical awareness: ability to match resources to technical issues appropriately.
  • Service awareness of all organisation’s key IT services for which support is being provided.
  • Understanding of support tools, techniques, and how technology is used to provide IT services.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to ensure quick and accurate entry of service request details.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast moving environment.
  • Flexibility to work out of hours required on occasion.

Educational/Vocational/Previous Experience Recommendations:

  • Standard Grade - English & Maths (or equivalent).
  • Vendor certification – at least MCP.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in similar role.
